Description
VINTAGE NATIVE AMERICAN NAVAJO STERLING SILVER TRINKET TRAY by ALLEN KEE WHITE HOGANTray weighs 28.8 grams. It is 3 Inches by 1 7/8 Inches by 1/2 Inch.
On the backside of the tray it says "Handmade Sterling." There is also an image of a hut and the initials "AK"
"AK" stands for the renowned Allen Kee at White Hogan, who was the cousin of Kenneth Begay and worked with him at White Hogan
from 1946-62.
Allen Kee and Kenneth Begay produced more award-winning jewelry than any other artists/silversmiths of the period. They linked Native American jewelry to the abstract artistic ideas that were taking over Europe and the United States of the 1920's through the 1960's, which
set in motion an artistic revolution that moved Native American jewelry from Spanish designs to art.
Because Allen Kee died early in his career, pieces by him are difficult to find. This is a wonderful example. Allen was taught his craft by Ambrose Roanhorse and his cousin Kenneth Begay.
The tray is in good condition with no significant damage. No cracks, scratches, or dings.
