THE PIERCE Governor Company was organized and began doing business in February of 1913, and since that time they have shown a record of constant growth and development. The original Pierce Governors were exclusively for automotive use and were driven from a sprocket or gear on the front wheel of the vehicle, similar to the manner in which speedometers were driven at that time. Governors driven in this manner of course control only the vehicle speed and had no control of the engine when the vehicle was not in motion or when it was traveling at a speed lower than that for which the governor was adjusted.
